Parents who are considering sending their child or children to St Mary’s Catholic Nursery can contact Mrs Yates, the School Bursar, who will explain the admission arrangements.
Parents are encouraged to look round the school and talk to Mr Shingler the Headteacher, before coming to a decision; this can be arranged through the school.
St. Mary's Nursery sets out to provide a stimulating and happy environment, in order that social, emotional and intellectual development of the individual child takes place through a structured play situation.
The children learn to play together, to adjust to each other and to share with each other, under the guidance of trained and caring adults. At a later stage each child is prepared for full-time schooling by developing pre-school skills of pre-reading,
pre-number and pre-writing.
The session for three and four year olds has an emphasis on social play, exploring and experimenting, while gearing up to preparation for entry into full-time schooling.
Farlea Childcare (St. Mary’s) is situated in the nursery unit of St. Mary’s School, however the breakfast session is held in the school hall, which can be accessed via the school playground. We are open from 7.30am to school start and 11.45am to 6.00pm. As well as offering before and after school childcare, we offer wraparound care for the nursery children. We can also provide care throughout all school holidays (except Christmas) at our setting at Bridgtown Primary School. Please see your Manager for more details.
Breakfast session: Our breakfast session starts at 7.30am with breakfast served until 8.30am. During this session your child can join in with a range of age appropriate activities, both indoors and outdoors in a safe and secure environment. At the appropriate time your child is directly from the hall into their classroom.
After School session: We ensure the safe collection of each child by following our structured procedure. Children are collected by childcare practitioners who are known to both the school and your child. Once everyone is accounted for we return to the setting. On return the children are offered a drink and a snack. They can then choose from a range of age appropriate activities in a safe and secure environment.
Our Nursery (EEF and Wraparound)
If your child attends morning school nursery, you can drop your child off at our breakfast session from 7.30am, where they can enjoy their breakfast before we take them to their nursery sessions. We can then collect them at the end of their nursery session where they can come back to our nursery for their lunch with their friends and interact with a range of learning and development materials both in our indoor and outdoor learning environment which are either child-initiated or adult-focused that ensure their ongoing development in a happy, engaging and secure environment.
We provide Early Education Funded (EEF) places from 12.15pm-3.15pm during term time. These sessions are available for children from the term after their third birthday and are provided to prepare your child for starting school. We also offer Think 2 places from 12.15pm - 3.15pm during term time, these places are only available for parents that meet the Staffordshire County Council criteria; for more information and to apply please visit:
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) delivered through the Development Matters program. This program supports our childcare practitioners in the planning of activities to ensure the needs of every individual child are met. Your child will be designated a key person who will assess your child’s learning and development needs by observing them on a daily basis and planning for their future ‘Next Steps’. For more information relating to the EYFS please visit www.foundationyears.org.uk/eyfs-statutory-framework/
We realise that for some children the nursery day can be tiring for this reason we have a quiet area where your child can sleep or have a quiet five minutes during their day. Children can participate in nursery regardless of their toileting needs. We see toilet-training as a self-care skill that children have the opportunity to learn with the full support and non-judgemental concern of adults. We work with parents towards toilet training their children.
What to do next
For more information or to book a space please call or visit the setting and speak to the Manager who will be happy to discuss your needs and begin the enrolment process.
We aim to meet all the needs of parents and so try to be as flexible as possible with the hours we offer. You can book a permanent space on the days of your choice or you may use the facility on an occasional basis, even last minute, however we cannot guarantee a space, but we will do our best!
